The popular CBC Radio show All in A Day Book Club will be meeting in Manor Park this week. Guest author Kai Thomas will discuss his book In the Upper Country.

The program will record a discussion with the formerly Ottawa-based author at the Manor Park Community Council hub at 1805 Gaspé Ave. Wednesday April 17.

His book is national bestseller and winner of the 2023 Atwood Gibson Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize. It’s a work of historical fiction set in the 18th century. It focuses on two characters, a young journalist and an old woman who recently arrived in Canada via the Underground Railroad. Through their stories, the novel explores the history of the Underground Railroad from the southern U.S. states to Canada, including through Indigenous lands around the Great Lakes.

The All in A Day Book Club, hosted by Alan Neal, often travels to different locations around the city to host authors and discuss their latest works.

Last summer, the show featured Ottawa author Emily Austin discussing her book Everyone In This Room Will Someday Be Dead in Beechwood Cemetery.

CBC Radio is recording the show Wednesday April 17, but won’t be broadcast it until a later date.

Anyone interested in attending the event can register here, or sign up to a waiting list if there are no seats left. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Book lovers can also reserve a spot virtually to listen to the show online.
