Municipal election profile: Cameron Bonesso

OCSB Trustee candidate, Zone 10

With the 2026 municipal election coming up Oct. 26, the Chronicle reached out to candidates with a series of questions, in a bid to help readers get better acquainted with those vying for their votes. 

The following is a profile of Ottawa Catholic School Board Zone 10 (Rideau-Rockcliffe, Rideau-Vanier, Somerset wards) trustee candidate Cameron Bonesso.  

I’m a Sandy Hill resident and the owner of a small consulting firm and call centre that provides jobs for over 20 wonderful people. I know what it means to work hard. 

In 2022, I ran for OCSB trustee. Now, I’m running again to build on the work we started to help make the Ottawa Catholic School Board a better place for students, parents, and educators. I’ve seen how addiction and the homelessness crisis have impacted our neighbourhoods and families with children attending school here. This is what has inspired me to become an advocate for our community and get involved in local politics.

I’m running for OCSB trustee because we need new leadership around the board table that is not only rooted in this community, but is responsive and brings innovative ideas. Over the last four years, the OCSB has seen a large growth in students. With this growth come new challenges.

During the last term, our zone’s incumbent trustee voted to further increase compensation for executives already making an average of $200,000/year. It’s a misalignment of priorities to give these executives a pay bump. Especially when these same executives later attempted to fire bus attendants that support children while on the bus to and from school. My top priorities include fiscal responsibility, mental health, school safety, and delivering access to quality educational programming.

Experience

As a business owner and someone who has served on community boards, I bring experience managing balanced budgets and an understanding of effective board governance. I’m willing to work collaboratively with the province while being prepared to challenge the government in order to stand up for students, parents, and ratepayers. I firmly believe in the right to a quality Catholic education that is grounded in the gospel’s values.
