Here’s what Manor Park residents need to know about upcoming federal election in Ottawa-Vanier-Gloucester

The federal election is coming up on Monday, Apr. 28. Here is some key information and dates to remember. 

Who’s running in Ottawa-Vanier-Gloucester?

According to Elections Canada, there are 8 candidates vying for your vote during this campaign:

• Elizabeth Benoit, Independent

• Coreen Corcoran, Libertarian Party of Canada

• Mona Fortier, Liberal Party of Canada

• Christian Legeais, Marxist-Leninist Party of Canada

• Tristan Oliff, New Democratic Party

• Christian Proulx, Green Party of Canada

• Marty Simms, People’s Party of Canada

• Dean Wythe, Conservative Party of Canada

Advance Voting 

There are several locations within the riding where one can vote in advance of the actual Election Day. For Manor Park residents, they are:

• Ottawa-Vanier-Gloucester Elections Canada office, Trillium Building, 214 Montreal Rd. in Vanier, open seven days a week until Tuesday, April 22 at 6 p.m.

• Manor Park Public School, 100 Braemar St., April 18, 19, 20 and 21 (9 a.m. to 9 p.m.)

• 1805 Gaspe Ave., April 18, 19, 20 and 21 (9 a.m. to 9 p.m.)

Refer to your Voter Information Card (received in the mail) to confirm your advance voting location.

Vote by mail

If you plan to vote by mail, you must apply by April 22, 6 p.m. You will vote using the special ballot process, but make sure the completed ballot is received by Elections Canada by election day. Otherwise, it can’t be counted. Visit elections.ca for more information.

Voter Information Card

According to Elections Canada, if you received your Voter Information Card (VIC) by April 11 and your name and address are correct, you are registered to vote. 

If you have not received your card or there is incorrect information, you may not be registered or information may need to be updated. Call 1-800-463-6868 or 1-800-361-8935 (TTY) for assistance. 

You can also register when you vote. 

How and where to vote on election day? 

Anyone who is registered will receive a VIC with details on when and where to vote. Be sure to bring this and one piece of identification that shows your name in order to receive a ballot.  

If you don’t receive a VIC, you can still vote on Election Day. Bring a piece of identification showing both your name and home address. This will allow you to register and receive a ballot. All eligible voters must be 18 years of age, and a Canadian citizen.

For Manor Park residents, voting on Election Day, Monday, Apr. 28, will take place at Manor Park Public School, 100 Braemar St., and 1805 Gaspe Ave., from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
