Municipal election profile: Jennifer Moroziuk

Trustee candidate, Zone 6, OCDSB

My name is Jennifer Moroziuk. I am a wife, mother, and proud product of the Ottawa public school system. I have been an active community advocate for many years. I have served as Chair of the Rideau High School Committee, participating in the Eastern Area Review Committee. And I have volunteered with community initiatives in Overbrook and beyond.

I first gained local prominence fighting to keep Rideau High School open for students. Today, I spend several mornings a week volunteering at the Rideau Hub alongside my profoundly autistic son. I work to strengthen food security, community connections, and sustainability. I was once recognized as a Waste Diversion Hero by the Niagara Region, and I continue to make green living a priority at home, school, and work.

Meaningful pathways to success

I am running for Zone 6 Trustee because I believe every student deserves meaningful pathways to success, including students with disabilities. Education should prepare young people not only for graduation, but also for employment, independence, community participation, and lifelong learning.

Zone 6 is unique. We do not have a public high school, and our students are welcomed into neighbouring schools that serve communities with very different needs. Many areas in our zone face lower incomes and underfunded services. We need stronger partnerships between schools and community organizations. These would help expand after-school programming, STEM opportunities, volunteer experiences, and other supports for youth in Zone 6. These opportunities will help all of our students build the skills, confidence, and connections they need to become productive and well adjusted adults.

I believe the Ministry of Education and OCDSB are listening and are committed to working toward better outcomes for students. When we collaborate, we all win. I commit to working with both the Ministry and the OCDSB to bring the voices of students, parents, educators, and community members to the table. Win or lose, I will continue to fiercely advocate for the students and families of Zone 6.
