Open house unveils new MPCC child care centre
Manor Park Community Council Chair Mark Smith casts an eye at upcoming community events

Hi Manor Park! I am thrilled to share an update on:
- the September open house at 1805 Gaspé,
- licensing of our MPCC child care centre, and
- a peek into upcoming sports and recreation programs.
Open House: A resounding success
The Open House held at 1805 Gaspé on September 19 was a testament to Manor Park’s incredible sense of community.
Several hundred individuals, from neighbors to newcomers, came through the doors of 1805 Gaspé to explore the site’s exciting transformations. It was rewarding and inspiring to hear about the excitement and enthusiasm shared on that day.
One of the highlights was the grand unveiling of the newly licensed Manor Park Child Care Centre. Parents and children alike had a wonderful time exploring this bright and inviting space. It’s filled with educational resources in an atmosphere that fosters learning and growth for toddlers and preschoolers. The daycare will be a vital resource for families in our community. The MPCC is providing them with a safe and nurturing environment for their children.
Our renovated spaces (“The Studio” and “The Arts Space”) also received enthusiastic feedback. These are more than just rooms; they are a hub for wellness, creativity, events and rentals for our community members. We are committed to providing a diverse range of classes and workshops that cater to all ages and interests, ensuring that 1805 Gaspé becomes a vital part of our community.
Upcoming sports and recreation
As we transition into the winter months, the MPCC is gearing up for an exciting season of sports and recreational programming. We understand the importance of staying active and engaged, even in the coldest months of the year.
One of our winter highlights is the return of the two outdoor ice rinks. The rink at the Manor Park Community Centre has been a cherished part of our community for years, providing opportunities for skating lessons, hockey, and social gatherings. We now also add the rink at 1805 Gaspé. If we believe the predicted influence of an El Nino winter, this winter’s ice conditions could be fantastic. I’m personally hopeful that we can bring back the four-on-four Pond Hockey league in 2024! (Interested? Contact mproulx@manorpark.ca.)
In addition to the ice rinks, our winter programming will feature a variety of indoor and outdoor activities, such as the popular Jr. NBA basketball program, art classes, and coding and virtual reality classes. Our aim is to cater to diverse interests and age groups, making our community a hub of winter fun and camaraderie.
Looking further into the future, we are building The Trailhead, an outdoor meeting space for cross country skiers, snowshoers, and walkers to meet, eat and warm up!
Holiday Night Market: A Festive Gathering
The Manor Park Community Council and the Beechwood Market are teaming up again to bring Manor Park a holiday night market on December 2 at 1805 Gaspé. This festive event promises to be a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the holiday season with your friends and neighbors, and it’s a perfect chance to shop for unique gifts and indulge in delicious local treats. We look forward to seeing you
